A native of the Bay area in California, Omar grew up experiencing a wide variety of foods. He says he got into cooking in college. He moved to Sioux Falls in 2004, and went into cooking as a career, working at Grand Falls Casino Resort and Bros. Brasserie, as well as The Banquet and LifeScape. Omar does a lot of private cooking for friends and family, as well. He says his mother was his greatest influence, and he enjoyed many great moments in the kitchen with her. Of his cooking philosophy, Omar says, “I believe in layering flavor as I cook, adding and loving each ingredient that is added to the meal. I also believe in using all I can and not letting any go to waste.” His favorite tools are his knives, most of which he purchased at Plum’s and his go-to app is Food Network.
